I'm working on closing on our first GenesisOne account today which includes drafting a proposal on the scope of creative work we plan to supply and the pricing to go with it. The level we're blessed to be doing business at requires that we set our prices according to the value our involvement adds to a project.
Wait, wait, wait..... Before I get ahead of myself;
Shout out to God for blessing us with this client, we haven't even officially "launched" yet but we were blessed enough to take a conference call all the way from Kenya this morning to discuss our creative involvement in branding and advertising an annual missions conference. We haven't spent a dime on advertising GenesisOne, we haven't even finished our website yet; we got this prospect on the strength of our individual merit & word of mouth. God is just good like that, we've gotta give Him the glory.
So like I was saying, as business owners we have the benefit of telling our clients what we're worth. We don't have to take wages based on what human resources decides, we get to make the choice. As business owners we all have this opportunity, it sounds wonderful, but the question is where are we selling ourself?
What are you worth in your mind? What is an hour of your time worth? If you were a product, where would you sell yourself?
Too many of us as business owners & entrepreneurs price ourselves WAY TOO LOW; we position ourselves as if we're a product at Walmart, slashing our prices in hopes that we'll impress the client. Some of us look at price as being a selling point for our product; that the lower our price is, the more appealing we are to prospective clients. In reality your price shouldn't be a selling point, it should be an indicator of the value you provide.
Don't put yourself on the clearance rack, you have to know your own value and find clients who are in the market for that value. You may think you'd lose business, but you'll never create wealth for yourself or anyone else by being the "bargain guy". I'm not suggesting you inflate your rates, but definitely DONT SELL YOURSELF CHEAP!
